Do YOU know what YOU'RE supporting?

"I like your idea of spreading the wealth. How are you going
to do it? "

I think this political cartoon is great. Why? Because it’s so true yet sad. Look at this regular Joe blindly supporting Obama. How disappointing is it that there are so many people supporting a candidate yet they know nothing of their policies? Very! Are Obama supporters aware that he intends to spread the wealth? Are Obama supports aware of HOW he INTENDS to do such a thing? Presidential candidate Barack Obama plans on RAISING taxes and especially taxing larger companies. Sure that sounds good, because they make all the money, right? WRONG! If Obama taxes the oil industry, for example, then that will do nothing but force that industry to raise their prices to make up for the loss. Once the price of gas rises again, then smaller businesses won’t be able to afford paying for the gas to deliver flowers, or pizza, or send their employees to other job sights thus leading to a financial cut back for all companies. Then the unemployment rate will rise too because employers will not be able to have as many employees as before, causing an overall downward spiral effect for all citizens – more the middle class Americans then anyone else. It makes perfect sense.

Is that what America really needs in a time like this? Taxing the rich is not as good as it sounds, but please, vote Obama if you’d like this to happen. Because this is the way to solve our economic problems, according to the man himself. Sounds good, doesn’t it???

i agree!! does this whole "take from the rich and give to the poor" sound a lot like robin hood?? or like socialism?? i mean, i thought america was a democratic republic, not a socialist empire. the whole like taxing the people who have money to give it to the people who dont so everyone will be even is communist and people think it sounds really good right now, but communism hasnt really worked out very well for any one and i dont want to see this happen to america!!!

It's worth pointing out that taxing is spreading the wealth, no matter who does it. You pay your taxes and then the government gives it to whomever they please, i.e. they spread the wealth. Even John McCain doesn't plan to elimanate all taxes, is he trying to spread the wealth? no. The only difference between the two candidates is who they want to help, the upper or the middle class. Also, oil companies make billions of dollars in PROFITS. They are insanely rich and being taxed a little more won't so much as phase them. Taxing them a little more so that you can give a break to the middle class(the driving force behind our economy) can only serve to benefit the nation as a whole. Even smaller businesses, for the most part, won't get taxed. Only the ones that make more that $250,000 get extra taxes, and a large percentage of them don't make that much. In fact, a lot of small businesses make a small enough amount of money to get a tax cut, which would make it easier for them to expand and create new jobs. The term 'spreading the wealth' is a common scare tactic, and in truth, giving assistance to those who need it most will help everyone.

I'd like to remind you that arguably the greatest financial mind of our time, Warren Buffet, endorses Barack Obama. As does Paul Krugman, Robert Kiyosaki, Paul Volcker, Daniel McFadden, Laurence Meyer, Edmund Phelps, Amartya Sen, Robert Solow, Joseph Stiglitz, Jared Bernstien, Steve Westly, Hugh McColl, and Eric Schmidt. If you're counting, that's SIX economic Nobel laureates. Shall we consider your candidate's financial policy, the "trickle-down" effect? It's the idea that by giving large corporations tax breaks, they'll distribute the wealth to the rest of society. Then consider the last eight years. For the last eight years, corporations have been generating massive revenues, making record profits, and receiving equally impressive tax-breaks. How's the economy Rebecca? Has the "trickle-down" philosophy worked? You also forgot to mention John McCain also supported the economic bailout plan... maybe he too is a socialist. The entire idea behind your post is that if companies' tax rates are low, the price of their products/services will follow. You've left out one very important aspect– corporate greed. The sub-prime lending crisis is a perfect illustration of this. Are you implying that a marginal tax increase would topple the US economy? When capitol-gains taxes were 40%, did American's quit working and sit in a corner? Warren Buffet doesn't think so, and neither do I. What about John McCain's healthcare policy? A policy that upon third-party evaluation, is simply a horrible idea. It'll make proving healthcare so cost-prohibitive for most companies, they'll have to drop their employer healthcare policies for good. Luckily for the people who've been dropped, they'll have a $5,000 tax credit! Oh wait, the average price for insurance isn't $5,000– is it? Sounds like you've been drinking the conservative cool-aide. Why don't you educate us "blind" Obama supports? Enlighten us! Why would a McCain-Palin administration be soon good for this great nation? Let us know about Lincoln Savings and Loan. Why don't you write a blog post about Charles Keating? How about the Alaskan Independence Party? How about Senator Phil Gramm?

Hey Becca... your post doesn't have much substance. That michael_l kid's points had much more substance then yours. His response was twice as long as your article and supported it with hard evidence and analysis to back it up. Nice try but I think you failed...in a nice way...no offense
