Prop 8

In the theme of support and disdain for political ideas in the previous couple posts... I will bring up the topic of Proposition 8. Prop eight proposes the ban of gay marriage in California. This is what was fought for, for so long until it finally happened in a Supreme Court overruling, and now Prop 8 wants to take the right away from gay/lesbian couples that wish to get married.
Prop 8 campaigns to 'restore marriage' and give 'religious freedom', but it in fact imposes religion onto our society. The idea that same-sex marriage isn't natural comes strictly from religion, therefore forcing everyone in the state of California to be ruled under a law that comes from religion.
Voters for 'Yes on Prop 8' often argue that marriage is a sacred thing, between a man and a women, and is a tradition rooted in religion. But if this was a valid argument, why aren't they trying to ban the marriage between an atheist couple? Or why aren't people that don't believe in any god being attacked for celebrating Christmas or Easter, other religious traditions?
Voting yes on Prop 8 endorses a blurred line between church and state and will no doubt bring more inequality to gay/lesbian couples.
Passing Prop 8 will also encourage more predjudice among the people in California. We must stand up for what is right and vote No on Prop 8, to educate the state and prove that Californians believe in equality for all and the separation of church and state.

I agree completely. Not only is it rooted in religion, it takes away human rights. Think of it this way people. If you like someone and want to marry them, would you want a law in place that prevents you from marrying them? I highly doubt it. If you vote for Prop 8, you could indeed be considered a bully to many people. So please, don't be that bully. Don't take away someone's happiness. Vote no on 8.

Civil Union: gives gays similar rights to marriage. Restoring marriage in California is important, I mean, look at the definition according to dictionary.com: “the social institution under which a man and woman establish their decision to live as husband and wife by legal commitments, religious ceremonies, etc.” Where as CIVIL UNION is stated to be, “a legally recognized and voluntary union of adult parties of the same sex.” It goes on to say, “parties to a civil union have all the same protections, responsibilities, and rights as partners in marriage.” Are we trying to change the definition of all these words? Is that what their fighting for? Gays have their own way of legally bonding themselves together and it’s Civil Union. So why impose this upon everyone else? And make churches lose their tax exempts, and why is there a fight going on when they have their own version. It’s not separate but equal, because there not the same thing. Obviously. Plus California voted 61% that marriage should stay between a man and a woman, so shouldn’t we give California what it wants? Actually, I think I’m going to write my own blog about this now, lol thanks.

Why should there be different versions? It's not as if it is going to cause people to turn gay. It's simply a matter of equality. There shouldn't BE an issue about this, and the fact that there is...well, it's actually pretty ridiculous.

Like you said, marrige is a sacred thing. So what are people trying to ban marrige? If it is so sanctid, why dont that ban divorce?
And people that love each other should no be treated any differently.
And most of all, it not not affect anyone! All that "yes on prob 8 gives more parental rights" is just bogus. Really?
And gay marrige is not going to ruin your childs future. I promise.
Like so many people say, its all about religon. Its a God thing. But isnt God supposed to be a loving, caring guy? If he can forgive your sins, I belive that he wouldnt mind 2 people in love to get married.
NO ON PROP 8!!

I feel that if it makes a couple stronger than a couple should be able to get married. So Gay/Lesbians are not allowed to be religous and join there lives together. And I know they have the whole union of two lives but that is discrimination and discrimination is wrong! EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE deserves fair and equal rights!

Why are you "laughing out loud", Rebecca? Are you really that pathetic? It seems like every time I read one of your blogs or comments I get more infuriated. And the fact that you are for Prop 8 doesn't exactly help. Anyhow, why is evryone for Prop 8. I must say I find it interesting how so many people hate the way blacks were treated, yet here we are again, trying to deny rights to a fellow human being. Have any of you Prop 8 supporters even thought about it in this way? The anonymous person put it well by saying marriage was sacred. It is sacred, so why are we trying so hard to get rid of it?

answer me this: what makes gay/lesbian couples less of a couple than straght couples? Why are they being denied rights? Is it because its morally wrong, in your perception? morals? i mean really. We can not base our nation on religious morals.

Wow. You who would vote yes, I cannot believe you would lower yourselves to that level of hate.
